"Healthcare at Your Doorstep" was the message that the Health Promotion Trust (HPT) brought to parishioners of Immaculate Conception (IC) Church, Borivli, through a 12-session preventive health training.
HPT staff shared relevant knowledge and strategies to encourage participants to take responsibility and be accountable for their health, and that of their family and community. The goal of this training is to help people reduce their reliance on medical professionals for health issues that can be resolved through effective preventive practices. Upon successful completion of the training, Fr Rocky Banz, HPT Director, awarded participants with a 'Barefoot Health Worker' certificate, signifying their eligibility to share knowledge of preventive health with others in the community. Participants expressed that the training inspired them to address behaviour and attitudes that had hindered their ability to maintain good health. They also found Measures of Healthy Living - an HPT publication - to be a very beneficial resource.
More than 400 participants have attended HPT's preventive health training sessions at Our Lady of Salvation Church, Dadar; IC Church, Borivli; and Our Lady of Assumption Church, Kandivli. Presently, 100 participants each are attending similar training at St Joseph Church, Juhu, and St Peter Church, Bandra.
